PUNK ROCK SELF-HELP

False Profit (2 of 2)

There is a beautiful part of my fellow  Queens & Kings that LOVES learning!!!

How do I know this?!?

Bc you are reading GSTQ, a Self-Help blog :))))
It's absolutely wonderful that we strive to become better! And work towards higher learning in hopes of becoming the best version of US!!!
Woot.
Woot.
Let's embrace it! ;)

During, my self betterment journey I stumbled across Transcendental Meditation or TM.

YouTube video after YouTube video...

(Ya got me...

I was in a YouTube Transcendental Meditation worm hole!!!)

All these celebs said they did it, and how it changed things for them, and how much better they were because of it.

Jerry Seinfeld.
Ellen Degeneres.

All the smart stars are doing it! And these were people I truly respected! Clearly, it works for them so it must work, right?!?!

Maybe.

Hmm...
Was I willing to pay $1,000 to know for sure?!

Turns out, no I'm not.

Got me thinking and asking myself: What exactly was I hoping to gain from the Transcendental Meditation class?

-clarity
-guidance
-self love
-"my mantra"
-loss of tension
-throat clear
-understanding of within
-permission to dive deep
-I paid for it so I must be doing it correct
-finally learn the right way to meditate
-silence my mind

As you know this was my 2nd school in the past couple of months that I strongly considered paying BIG BUCK$ for.

I googled my tail off for weeks and finally found a bad review.

(Again)
Always a red flag when there are NO bad reviews.

Turns out there was an old Blogger website named: "Why I Quit Transcendental Meditation"
http://whyiquittranscendentalmeditation.blogspot.com/?m=1

Years upon years of comments to follow...

Describing personal experiences...

Cult-like behavior...

One comment in particular hit home.
He heard back that the super duper high price of the TM course was to follow Maharishi’s will. Long after his death...

Yikes!

$1,000 is a lot of $$$.
For a mantra. A phrase in sanscript.
That is randomly chosen.

I get they say it's learning a life time practice. And we can go back to any center when we want to get a "touch up."

Still...

How could they charge so much for something that is for the Universal good?

And anyone can learn to meditate.

Why not make it less expensive so it could be shared with the world?!?

Doesn't feel right.

False Profit.

Today, at what cost is no cost? Are there certain non-negotiables on your spending for learning?

Like most yoga classes are $20 BUT you pay $60 for the master class bc you LOVE the teacher!

Is there a cap for your spiritual spending?

I have a friend who will not spend more than $200 for a seminar, class, anything. She HAD to put a mental cap on it or else she said she could convince herself of anything!

Education is very important to me.
But at what cost do I feel like I am being taken for?!

If we were zillionaires would we do it?

Maybe. ;)

But my backward fear of us not becoming a zillionaire bc we didn't do it.

Now, that's not the health of wealth!

Xoxo
